Hey friends, I came across an important concept for achieving happiness in a book I'm reading, and I think you need to hear this. Your locus of control is the determining factor of your happiness or unhappiness in life. It can be either internal or external, and it’s where you derive control of your life events from. People with an internal locus of control feel that they are self-directed, in complete control of their lives. They feel strong, confident, and powerful. They are generally optimistic and positive. They feel terrific about themselves and very much in charge of their destiny.
On the other hand, people with an external locus of control feel controlled by external factors, by their boss, their bills, their marriage, their childhood problems, and their current situation. They feel out of control and as a result, they feel weak, angry, fearful, negative, hostile and disempowered.
Book: Brian Tracy, Goals Which one resonates more with you? If it's external, I get it. You feel like life is against you and nothing goes your way. That can take a toll on you emotionally, so I'm going to show you how to get out of that cycle. It may sound harsh, but you need to take responsibility for your life. All of it. There is a direct link between taking responsibility for your life and having an internal locus of control. It's a tough thing to do because responsibility feels like blame. If you were abused as a child, it's not your fault, but it is your responsibility to deal with the consequences because it's your life. Unfortunately, nobody else will come and do that for you. When you start taking more responsibility for your life, you start to feel more in control. It empowers you, builds your confidence, and gives you optimism. There is also a direct link between responsibility and happiness. The more responsible you are for your life, the happier you will feel. When something goes wrong, instead of directing blame towards others (external), you look at yourself (internal). This helps you identify your own deficiencies. I just had my results recently. Alhamdulillah, I passed, but some students failed. If you speak to a failing student with an external locus of control, they will blame John's wedding, the weather, their recent illness, or the university. Seldom do they take responsibility themselves. An external locus of control leaves you helpless. If your life isn't in your control, how can you possibly change it? Take Responsibility → Internal locus of control → Happiness Medical School Update 🩺Alhamdulillah, by the will of Allah swt I passed all of my med school finals!!! I had such great news this week, which just topped it off for me. I can truly enjoy my summer now and can't wait to return to finish my 5th and final year of medical school. I'm so close to being a doctor now it's insane. I have a close friend who unfortunately has a resit exam, so I'm helping him through it. I text him every day or so and check in with what he's doing & I gave him my full study plan. I had so much help from my friends in these exams, people who took time out to sit with me and do OSCE practice. I have older doctor friends who I reached out to for advice in the months prior so after this news, I just felt unbelievably grateful for all of them. Of course, I make duaa (prayer) for anyone who helps me. Also to all of you guys, the comments, duaas and messages on IG after my results video were so heartwarming. It is crazy to look at the community we've built over the years. I think before I finish medical school I need to create something with all of my study advice so I can leave that as a parting gift for future students insha'Allah. On to the next win. Cool Stuff 👇🏽

What is failure? Today we have a guest post. I didn’t write this, but I wish I did. I don’t do these often, or ever actually. But I do so if I come across a body of work worthy of sharing. This was written so well, sitting in a PDF collecting digital dust, until today, so grab your coffee, kick back for 5 minutes and let your mind wander for a moment while you read along. What is failure? - By Anon. If you were to hear the word dog you would think of a four-legged canine with its tail...

Life got better...
I've been stuck in bed every morning lately. It's very out of character for me. This morning I made it up at 6:20 am. And it's Saturday. I was motivated to make it to the mosque at 6:45 am, which helped. But it taught me something. Getting up was the hardest part. I was listening to this podcast episode about phone addictions, and the speaker said the people who are most successful in avoiding scrolling are the ones who have systems in place. Strict rules and regulations about their bad...
